NDT is a simple movement programme, which benefits children, teenagers and adults. Some children have Developmental Delay. This causes them to find certain skills difficult, for example:
- Riding a bicycle
- Catching a ball
- Typing shoelaces
- Using cutlery
- Preferring to eat with fingers
- Be clumsy
- Have difficulty relating to children their own age group
- Have enuresis – bed wetting
- Be sensitive to light or sound
- Have difficulty with left and right
- Be more exhausted or more hyper than peers
In these situations parents and children often wonder why a child has difficulty learning a new skill. Many of them have Developmental Delay. Parts of the brain mature later than normal, and there is a physical basis for the problem. For example, they may have missed out the motor muscle learning stages of crawling on their tummy or creeping on their hands and knees.
In people with Developmental Delay 50% is inherited. 50% stems from problems in the womb, with birth and early childhood development. A quick questionnaire by phone can establish if the person has this physical basis for the difficulties.
We are born with a set of baby reflexes, which should disappear by age 2.5 years. Our adult reflexes should then come forward. In people wit Developmental Delay this does not happen so they are left with faulty body mechanics so it is hard to function, especially under stress. A Neurodevelopment Assessment establishes where the problem areas lie and what exercises will correct them.
The Therapy is a non-invasive programme of movements. These develop the nervous system and inhibit the baby reflexes. The nervous systems is then able to mature, making the previously mentioned tasks come easily to the child or adult. We have a 95% success rate, scientifically and medically proven.
The child or adult will have a set of exercises to do very day for approximately 5-10 minutes. The person will be guided through the programme from the outset. Reviews of progress will be made every 6 weeks. The programme generally takes up to one year. Nutritional Therapy and Sound Therapies are used in conjunction with Neuro Development Therapy.
